- Brief Book Blurb: Texas Ranger Brody Calhoun is with his parents in west Texas when an unexpected attack injures the brother of Rebecca Morgan, Brody's high school sweetheart. The local sheriff, a good friend, asks for Brody’s help. At first, it seems like an open-and-shut case.
As Brody digs deeper, he realizes the attack may be related to an organized crime trial Rebecca will be overseeing. With Rebecca's help, he compiles evidence involving cattle rustling, bribery, and dirty payoffs that shatter the entire community and put Rebecca directly in the line of fire.
Brody expects to protect her. What he never expects is to fall for Rebecca all over again, or for a murder to throw the case wide open. Is Brody's faith strong enough to withstand not only deep-rooted corruption and cattle rustling, but also love?

Now, let’s hear from Margaret:
A Motive for Murder: Revenge, By Margaret Daley
I was in the middle of writing Scorned Justice when the show Revenge came on last year on ABC--a show about a burning need to seek revenge on someone who had hurt the lead character. At least that was the impression I got from the ads about the new show. I have to confess I actually haven't seen the show. But it summed up my story--to what lengths would someone go to get back at another. A person takes the first step in a path of revenge, and before he/she knows it, there is no turning back. The need consumes him/her.
When revenge starts consuming the character, the fun really begins. The stakes are heightened. The villain starts to lose it and make mistakes. A show I do watch--Once Upon a Time--has revenge driving the plot. The Evil Queen wants to make Snow White pay for what she did as a child.
Revenge is one of the basic motives for a person murdering another. There are others like greed, hate/love, the need for power. When I wrote this book, I wanted to show how far someone could go, how it changed his/her life. And since this is an inspirational romantic suspense, I needed, a happily ever after ending so there is a consequence for the revenge beyond going to prison.

ReplyDeleteMargaret, I have really tried but cannot any of the movies or books titles, tho I have seen and read many where revenge was the motive behind what happens. And, things in our news way too often. Sorry. But sure want your book.

I watch Criminal Minds a lot (TV Show) and there were many episodes where the sole purpose of them going out and killing people was to "extract revenge" on a presumed (or actual) hurt done to them many years ago. I love that show because it depicts real life situations and really makes you think. It's psychological and scary because it could really happen.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this opportunity.

A movie called Enough with Jennifer Lopez had revenge as a main theme. She was an abused wife on the run with her daughter.

At first I couldn't think of anything dealing with revenge, but then I remember last season of NCIS dealt with a rich father taking his revenge against the Navy because of his son's death. It was sad the length he went, yes I realize it was TV but seeking revenge on your own is self-destructive to say the least.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for the chance to win one of Margaret's books.

ReplyDeleteI just watched a Big Valley show where this rich men with only one son, was framing an innocent young guy for the murder of his only son, tho he knew it was most likely his son was guilty of the crime, but he was all he had to give him an heir. Also a Criminal Minds show where someone was killing cops. When he was caught, he was seeking revenge for being put out as a cop, for a good reason, so was out to get cops. Just any he could. Sad, for was those who were not to blame. Sad what revenge can do to a person. Now, a legal entry. Finally. One Movie Title was "Revenge" Maxie mac262(at)me(dot)com
How about the movie made from the classic Les Miserable? In this case, the hero (Jean ValJean) chooses NOT to seek revenge on those who've treated him wrongly. Instead, ValJean struggles to bring good to everybody that he can.
